PNW-ISA Culture & Core Operating Values |
Mission Statement:“To foster a greater appreciation of trees and promote the professional practice of arboriculture through education, research & technology.” BackgroundThe PNW-ISA Chapter was founded in 1979 by a pioneering group of arborists throughout the Pacific Northwest who were committed to bringing cooperation, professionalism and higher standards of tree care to the region. PNW-ISA is the only international chapter in the ISA organization, spanning the region including Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. The Chapter is considered a premier organization within the greater ISA and has always been a leader within the green industry of the Pacific Northwest. Our Culture & Core Operating Values:In order to be successful as a sustaining leader in our industry, it is important for board members, staff and chapter members to understand and model PNW-ISA’s culture and core operating values. We all share in the responsibility to create a positive culture and to ensure equity, inclusion, dignity, and respect for all. We must understand our core values that the organization has been built upon as we lead the organization into the future. We are the leaders of proper tree care in the Pacific Northwest, and we are care-takers of trees and our professional community. We work together sharing knowledge, skills, and resources because if we succeed our entire industry succeeds. Our Chapter is built through professionalism, respect, and cooperation. Working together as a community is what has made us successful. We are innovators. From early on an entrepreneurial spirit among the chapter leaders has instilled a sense of pride among membership. We are leaders in the arboriculture profession and adapt quickly to move our industry as a whole forward. We are "Good Tree People” because of who we are and the values we hold: · To improve and grow our industry together serving the public throughout our region. · To be inclusive of all persons, and skill levels. · To strive to remove barriers. · To build camaraderie and community of tree care professionals. We are here to serve each other. That is why the Chapter was formed by members, to serve our members so that we can learn, improve, and go home safely every night. As members we will continue to engage with each other, and with our organization for our mission.
Our Core Operating Values are the foundation of our Culture. They reflect what we stand for, and what we will not tolerate. They are a fundamental part of the way we do business. Our uncompromising operating values are: inclusion; stewardship; service; integrity; respect; responsibility; cooperation and collaboration; and leadership. We will measure every decision, every action and ourselves against these operating values. InclusionIn an inclusive environment, everyone is able to be their best self and experience the full richness through participation. We foster an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and acceptance. We strive for excellence and recognize that our differences make us stronger. We respect and seek out inclusion of differences, realizing we learn more from each other when we are complemented by each other’s differences. StewardshipWe are stewards of our professional reputation, the environment, and of the resources that we have entrusted in our organization. We will plan imaginatively and pursue opportunities for tomorrow’s membership. We will be fiscally-accountable in every action we take from major expenditures to small transactions. ServicePNW-ISA is committed to providing great service during every interaction with membership, our partners, and the public. Our commitment to making membership the focus and reason for all that we do is what makes us a leading chapter within the ISA organization. IntegrityIntegrity leads our actions in all relationships, including those with membership, our partners, and each other. Integrity means that we are truthful and honest in all areas of life. When faced with difficult decisions and hard choices, we do the right thing, even in the face of adversity. RespectWe treat every person with respect and dignity. Our organization is a shelter from violence, threats, harassment of any sort, discrimination, retribution, bullying, and abuses of all kinds. It is a place where respect is built by showing respect. No amount of authority, status, or power excuses anyone in our organization from treating another with rudeness, humiliation, or disrespect. ResponsibilityPersonal accountability is a basis of our commitment to each other and the Chapter. We honor our commitments and obligations to each other. Cooperation and CollaborationTogether we can create solutions and outcomes that are far more creative and rewarding than any solution or outcome we could ever come up with on our own. We seek to build collaborative relationships within the green industry, and our communities. LeadershipWe recognize there is more to leadership than top down. We believe everyone has leadership potential, and given the right opportunity will rise to the occasion. We will cultivate leadership that is collaborative, empowering, open to ideas, willing to be influenced, committed to the success of others, and trusts in others. We model these behaviors, and we coach others so that they can one day lead our great organization. |
