Report Writing for Arborists

Good communication is essential to every facet of arboriculture. Good reports, whether bids or cost proposals, management plans, risk assessments, or appraisals, are an effective communication tool that can ensure a positive outcome for any project.
This workshop provides simple, easy-to-understand instruction to support arborists in writing effective reports. Topics will include report-writing basics, the crucial elements of an effective report, and various report styles, from a simple on-site field reports and estimates to comprehensive booklet-style reports. Authored reports will be reviewed and critiqued, and report templates included in the take-home handouts.

- Three report formats and when to use them.
- Using first person active language.
- Using simple language.
- The most useful question to ask your client.
12:30 – 1:30pm
- Review of submitted reports/discussion. (practice)
Before the Workshop
You are encouraged to send a report of yours to the instructor for review as part of the afternoon group discussion. This is a powerful way to learn about your own writing skills, and 2 or 3 professional reports will be accepted. Please send all reports in word format to Favero at email@example.com at least two weeks prior to the workshop.
Favero Greenforest is an independent consultant providing accurate and useful information and opinion about trees. He has been in private practice in the Puget Sound Region since 1988. Favero has served on the PNW-ISA Chapter board of directors; he has also taught workshops on effective report writing. He provides services to a wide array of clients, including Tree Risk Assessment, Disease Diagnosis, Appraisal, Pre-Development Inspection and Inventory, Preservation Plans and Expert Witness Testimony.
- Cancellations made at least 10 days prior to the event will be refunded at 100%.
- Cancellations made within 5-9 days of the event will be refunded at 75%.
- Cancellations made within 1-4 days of the event will be refunded at 50%.
- Refunds will not be made available for no-shows.
- Participants are expected to enroll prior to the registration deadline.
- Participants can register at the door of the event only if space is available. Individuals will need to pack their own lunch.
- Late registration is possible on a space available basis. You can contact our office at (800) 335-4391. There may, or may not be, room available for those who show up without registering ahead of time for the workshop. We encourage you to register for the workshop in advance.
