ISA Announces Upcoming Retirement of Executive Director Jim Skiera
After more than 22 years of service, Jim Skiera has announced his retirement as Executive Director of ISA, effective by the end of 2017. As per the established Succession Plan Policy, the ISA Board of Directors has appointed an Executive Director Transition Committee to manage the search process. This committee will be conducting a search to identify the next Executive Director. Details of the search process will be posted at a later date on the ISA website. Guide for Plant Appraisal: Overview of the 10th Edition
The Council of Tree and Landscape Appraisers (CTLA) represents seven supporting organizations within the green industry and is responsible for developing industry consensus methodologies for determining the value of vegetation in the landscape. Representatives to the Council collaborate as authors of the Guide for Plant Appraisal and act as conduits to their membership throughout the development and review process. Public Review: ANSI Z133 Standard Revisions
Current revisions to sections of the ANSI Z133-2012 Standard for Arboricultural Operations - Safety Requirements are available for a 30-day public review period from November 18
through December 18, 2016. This public review addresses only substantive revision recommendations that resulted from the prior public review period, which can be found at the link above.

Record Attendance at 2016 ISA Annual Leadership Workshop
The 2016 ISA Annual Leadership Workshop was a true record-breaker with 94 participants representing 15 countries worldwide. ISA Headquarters staff welcomed a highly enthusiastic group of leaders from ISA chapters, associate organizations, professional affiliates, and other related organizations to Champaign, Illinois, USA, for several days of educational sessions and networking.
This year’s Leadership Workshop began Monday afternoon, October 24, with a Tree Walk at Hessel Park followed by the Kickoff Dinner that brought workshop participants, the ISA Board of Directors, and ISA staff together for a warm welcome, introductions, and networking. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning offered educational sessions in tracks that focused on relevant presentations in various areas of interest: Association Management, Leadership Skills, First-time Attendees, and ISA-related Information.
The 2016 Leadership Workshop culminated with a first-time event, the ISA Tailgate Celebration, on Thursday, October 27, at noon. To bring the true flavor of the USA football tailgate tradition to our workshop participants, we enjoyed burgers, “dogs,” and brats hot off the grill with a chance to relax, get better acquainted, and play a few outdoor games on a cool, colorful autumn afternoon. A good time was had by all!

ISA Component Executives Recognized
During the 2016 ISA Annual Leadership Workshop, special recognition was given to ISA component executives who participated regularly in the bimonthly component executive web conference calls during 2015. (Note: PNW’s own Patty Williams was among those recognized!)
Certification Application Processing System (CAPS)
ISA has been working on a new application processing system to enhance the customer experience while also supporting its green initiative. The new Certification Application Processing System (CAPS) was launched earlier this month replacing the previous online submittal system. Further information is available here.
