Looking to fill one, full time position for an experienced tree climber. Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years experience climbing and aerial lift truck experience, with a valid Class 5 airbrake drivers license. Must be proficient in pruning, spurless climbing, large tree removals, hedge trimming and stump grinding. ISA arborist certification an asset. Should be polite and comfortable dealing with clients. We are a small, but busy company with an aerial lift truck and excellent equipment. The successful candidate will be an important member of a small, tight group of people.

Urban Forestry & Environmental Programs Manager

Urban Forestry and Environmental Programs is responsible for approximately 3500 acres of natural area parks, large urban forests within the City of Surrey and the Surrey Nature Centre. There are over 65,000 street trees and over 18,000 shade trees in parks within the City. The City has planted on average more than 5,000 street trees and shade trees in parks each year over the last three years and seen more than 10,000 visitors each year to the Surrey Nature Centre. The Urban Forestry and Environmental Programs Manager will be responsible for directing the work of contractors, volunteers and staff who work within Urban Forestry & Environmental Programs.

The Urban Forestry and Environmental Program Manager will be responsible for providing overall leadership and management of urban forestry & environmental programs and services. Responsibilities will include: establishing and maintaining effective relationships with other City departments and government agencies for the delivery of urban forestry and environmental programs; preparation and implementation of Corporate and departmental plans and strategies for service delivery; participation in the planning, design and development of parks, civic facilities and neighbourhoods relative to urban forestry; leading public consultation processes and acting as a departmental representative to community advisory committees and community associations; developing and managing the operating budget and capital budget; developing, recommending and implementing urban forestry and environmental policies, procedures and practices; preparation of reports to stakeholders and senior managem ent and hiring, evaluating, training, developing and coaching employees.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in the philosophy and practice of community development and possess strong interpersonal skills, leadership and management abilities. Considerable experience in problem solving, negotiation, persuasion and collaboration, with demonstrated skills in facilitation and conflict resolution, will be essential for success in this role. You will bring a strong understanding of park operations and community partnerships and you will actively display good judgment, decision making, initiative and independence in resolving problems and conflicts as the Urban Forestry & Environmental Programs Manager.

Applicants will have completed post-secondary training in natural or biological sciences, arboriculture, forestry or other related academic programs associated with the practice of urban forestry. Considerable experience in park management or urban forestry management and certification as, or eligible for, certification from the International Society of Arboriculture as a Municipal Specialist.
