Exam Schedule & Fees

The Pacific Northwest ISA holds numerous certification exams throughout the year all over the Chapter region (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia). This exam schedule is kept current here. The Certified Arborist Exam costs US $150 for members of both the ISA and the PNW-ISA and US $250 for nonmembers or those who hold membership in only one of the organizations.

The Certified Arborist exam is a written test consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions. The Certified Arborist exam costs US $150 for members of both the ISA and the PNW-ISA and US $250 for non-members or those who hold membership in only one of the organizations.

The Utility Specialist and/or Municipal Specialist Certification is available to individuals who already hold the Certified Arborist designation. These exams are offered at the same time as the regular Certification exams. Rates vary from $55 to $100 for members of both organizations and $185 to $230 for non-members.

The Certified Tree Worker exam consists of a 50 question multiple-choice written test and a climbing skills test. The Certified Tree Worker exam costs $115 for ISA and PNW-ISA members and $165 for non-members or members of only one organization. Morning exams begin at either 8:30 or 9 am, and afternoon exams begin at either 12:30 or 1:00 pm. You may not take an exam without pre-registering. Walk-ins are not accepted. Certified Tree Worker exams often run all day, beginning in the morning. Additional exams may be scheduled as needed.

Advance registration for all exams is is required at least twelve business days before the exam date. No walk-ins are permitted. You may download an ISA Certified Arborist Application Form using Adobe Reader. Space in exams may be limited, so early registration is encouraged.
